IIM Indore community came together at the Institute to celebrate the 66th Republic Day on January 26, 2015.
As Professor Rishikesha T. Krishnan, Director, IIM Indore, hoisted the National Flag, all the faculty, students and staff members of the Institute sang the National Anthem with pride and honour.
While delivering the Republic Day speech, Professor Krishnan observed that we must take pride in the fact that as a country, we are able to follow the democratic processes, believe in our constitution and have orderly and peaceful transfer of powers. However, we are still away from fulfilling some of the basic rights and obligations of our constitution and we must strive to fulfill those, he added.
Professor Krishnan noted that there are many rights including good healthcare, sanitation and clean drinking water that we are being unable to fulfill. On many health indicators, we are worse than some of our poorer neighbouring countries.
In the context, he emphasized on the fact that we usually attribute our success to our own efforts and failures to the environment, it’s a sobering thought to remember that as a privileged section of the society, we have the best of what the country has to offer.
IIM Indore students and faculty members have undertaken some outstanding social projects in recent years. And keeping with the Institute’s mission, IIM Indore students have always displayed a high level of social consciousness, and we hope, they will keep this up and carry the same spirit to the work places they will associate with eventually, he concluded.
