The Eleventh Annual Convocation of
the Indian Institute of Management Indore was held on March 29,
2010.
IIM Indore hosted
the pre-convocation function for the graduating students of the 2010
batch of the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management and
Executive PGP in Management. Set against the beautiful environs of
the institute campus, the function was organized to confer awards to
the young scholars for displaying extra-ordinary academic and
all-round performance during the two-year Post Graduate Programme in
Management.
The event commenced
with the presentation of bouquets to the Director of IIM Indore, Dr.
N.Ravichandran; Chairperson of the Post Graduate Programme, Prof.
Ganesh Kumar N; Acting Chairperson of the Executive Post Graduate
Programme in Management, Prof. Kamal K. Jain; and the chief guest of
the function, Mr. Manish Kalani, Managing Director of Entertainment
World Developers Private Limited (EWDPL).
The programme
started with the inaugural address by Dr. N Ravichandran, in which
he focused on the vital role of the youth in contributing to the
development of India. Dr. Ravichandran also emphasized the
importance of entrepreneurship for overall development of the
society as he introduced the Chief Guest, Mr. Manish Kalani, himself
a successful entrepreneur based in Indore.
The inaugural
address was followed by the address of the Chief Guest, Mr. Manish
Kalani. A Wharton graduate and the Managing Director of
Entertainment World Developers Private Limited, Mr. Manish Kalani
was at his amiable best as he spoke to the audience comprising of
participants of the different post graduate programmes, parents and
relatives of the participants, invited guests, faculty and staff
members of IIM Indore. He underlined the importance of doing things
differently in order to be successful in life, punctuating the
delivery with several anecdotes from his childhood and his academic
life.
The brainchild behind Treasure
Island, one of the most well known shopping malls in Indore, Mr.
Kalani shared the experience of marketing a tier-II city like Ujjain
effectively to gain investments from foreign investors. The address
served as a useful learning experience and gave insights into the
mechanics of the corporate world to the graduating participants.
The felicitation
ceremony that followed awarded certificates to the secretaries of
the various committees under the Students’ Activity Council (SAC).
Prizes for outstanding academic performance were given out to the
following participants:
• Mr. Vishal Omprakash Goenka
received a scholarship of Rs. 1,50,000 from the State Bank of
Indore, and the Eicher Gold Medal for the Best All Round Performance
• Mr. Vishal Vishwanathan received
a scholarship Rs. 50,000 from Eicher Motors Ltd for excellent
performance in the academic year 2008-2009
• Ms. Beejal Rawal received the KK
Alagh Gold Medal for Overall Outstanding Performance – Woman
• Mr. B. Sriram received the
Corporation Bank Gold Medal for the Best Outgoing Student
Among the Executive
PGP participants, Mr. Ghanshyam Srivastava, Mr. Naresh Lalwani and
Mr. Prabir Kumar Mohanty were awarded merit certificates by the
Chief Guest for their excellent academic performance in the
programme.
The event culminated with an artistic and entertaining play titled
“Daaku” Directed by Shri Balendra Singh from Bhopal.
The Eleventh Annual
Convocation of the Indian Institute of Management Indore was held on
March 29, 2010. The convocation event is held each year to confer
diplomas to the successful participants of the Post Graduate
Programme (PGP) in management and the Executive Post Graduate
Programme (Executive PGP) in Management. Awards for outstanding
academic performance are also given out during this ceremony.
This year the Chief
Guest for the event was Shri Harsh Mariwala, Chairman and Managing
Director, Marico Limited. The annual convocation began with the
group photographs of all graduating participants with the Chief
Guest, Board of Governors and faculty members of IIM Indore. This
was followed by the convocation procession, a tradition where all
participants along with Chief Guest, Board and faculty members of
IIM Indore walk through the hallowed precincts of the institute
toward the convocation lawns. Shri L N Jhunjhunwala, Chairman,
Indian Institute of Management Indore then declared the annual
convocation open and delivered the welcome address.
All graduating participants were
conferred the postgraduate diplomas witnessed by proud family
members, relatives and friends in the audience. Medals for academic
excellence were also given out to the following participants,
- Mr. Vishal Omprakash Goenka
received the IIM Indore Gold Medal for scholastic performance Rank 1
- Mr. Vishal Vishwanathan received
the IIM Indore Gold medal for scholastic performance Rank 2
- Ms. Beejal Rawal received the
IIM Indore Gold medal for scholastic performance Rank 3
- Ms. Beejal Rawal also received
the IIM Indore gold medal for the best woman participant for
scholastic performance
The Chief Guest for
the function, Shri Harsh Mariwala addressed the gathering and
graduating participants. Shri Mariwala delivered an inspirational
address where he spoke on how he built Marico Limited and
transformed it from being a traditional commodity based business
into a Rs. 3000 crore consumer products and services company with a
leadership position in the beauty and wellness space. The address
offered the graduating participants a succinct preview of the
multitude of challenges they were likely to face in the corporate
world and also gave them insights on how they could face these.
The Director of IIM Indore, Dr. N
Ravichandran addressed the participants and spoke on Panchsheel, the
five principles of life. He encouraged the graduating batch to
perform their duties with the highest level of integrity and passion
and prove themselves to be responsible citizens of the country. The
annual convocation was declared closed and the event culminated with
the National Anthem and leaving of the procession.
The entire
