IIM Indore launched the IPM programme
on Sunday November 13, 2011, beginning with an orientation program
for students. The Director Prof. N Ravichandran addressed the
gathering of faculty, staff, students of the IPM programme, and
their guardians on the philosophy of the programme,
 with
its focus on a holistic yet management oriented education aimed at
young students. This uniqe programme marks the first attempt by an
Indian Institute of Management to offer world class education to
undergraduate students.
Embedding the management curriculum in
a broader liberal arts setting will provide students with a diverse
body of knowledge, different perspectives from which to understand
and interpret the world around them, and the ability to leverage
positive externalities between different subjects. Motivated by a
belief in an enhanced ability to influence young students, this
programme will therefore allow the Institute to meet students’
aspirations while moulding them into outstanding management
professionals, change agents and societal leaders.
Accordingly, the first module of the
programme, accounting for approximately 50% of the curriculum would
focus on subjects in the Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities and
Performing Arts, allowing the students to explore different subjects
while at the same time giving them the facility to develop depth in
subjects of their interest. The second module of the program,
accounting for the remaining 50% of the curriculum, consists of
courses from the different functional areas of management, giving
students the freedom to either specialize in certain functional
 areas
or pursue a general management education across all functional
areas. International exposure and internship in social sector
organizations forms an important part of the programme.
After the address by the Director, the
orientation program continued with detailed presentations by Program
Staff on program structure and curriculum, facilities and resources
available to students, and ended with an exhortation to students to
give of their best during the next five years and enjoy a fruitful
and productive journey in IIM Indore. |
