PURA (Providing
Urban Amenities to Rural Areas) can catapult socio-economic growth
in India by accelerating development and economic activities in the
poverty ridden rural areas. It can be an effective intervention by
the Government to reduce the tension between India and Bharat and an
opportunity to realize inclusive growth. However, it may turn out to
be a double-edged sword draining off Government funds unless issues
of conceptualization, implementation, accountability, capacities and
effective institutional setup are addressed. It is therefore a
matter of national concern regards to implementation of the scheme
with far reaching impacts on the state and local governments. Indian
Institute of Management Indore is organizing a one-day conference on
PURA to set up a broad based discussion on what needs to be done and
how can PURA deliver its promised outcomes.
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam,
Former President of India has kindly consented to deliver the
inaugural address. Many prominent dignitaries from the Government
and other entities will present their views to set up an intense
discussion on the challenges, opportunities and ways ahead.
Indian Institute of
Management Indore is pleased to invite interested academicians,
urban and rural planners and developers, service providers, NGOs,
Government Departments, Bankers and Social Entrepreneurs and media
persons to participate in the conference and present their views
constructively on this topic of utmost importance to the nation and
