Life at IIM Indore is not only about hard work and meeting deadlines. It is also about being socially aware and having fun in life. After all, a true leader (Isn't that something all of us want to be?) is also a responsible citizen and he knows how to enjoy life. Sanskriti is an attempt in that direction. Being a young institute, it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us to shape the cultural and social fabric of this institute in a way that is reflective of the society and which helps us in developing into good citizens and future leaders.
Armed with that mission, Sanskriti organises a number of events throughout the year. As the new batch arrives in June, Sanskriti organises an Informal Freshers' Night. Though a fun event, it basically acts as an ice-breaker between the two batches. This is followed by a Formal Freshers Party, which has the participation from faculty, staff and students. This marks the formal welcome of the new participants into the family that IIM Indore is.
Talking about parties, one has to acknowledge the fact that fortnight dance parties are an essential feature of our life here. They act as a pressure release valve. To keep the enthusiasm and novelty going, Sanskriti organises theme parties. In the past we have had themes like "Life is Black & White", "Ethnic Day", "Life is a box of chocolates". Apart from these parties, we have Zodiac parties to celebrate the birthdays of participants. Painful rears notwithstanding, these parties are no less memorable than what we learn in our lectures, if not more!!
Sanskriti also arranges institute picnics twice a year. In the past we have gone to scenic places like Mandu, Seetala Mata Falls and Pataal Pani. A day-long picnic usually ends in a tired body but an inspired soul.
Sanskriti, as the name suggests, is a way to keep in touch with the Indian culture. True to this positioning, Sanskriti promises to make every participant feel at home during the festivals. Diwali here is as much fun, noise, sweets, lights and love as it is at home. Holi witnesses our metamorphosis into a different animal altogether. The cake on Christmas and party on the eve of New Year are a lucrative proposition for many of us to forgo our trips to our homes.
The Movie club also falls under the aegis of Sanskriti. Weekly movie nights provide an escape route to the world of fantasy, glamour, and thrills. Movie club ensures that people with diverse choices and language preferences get their due.
Sanskriti makes sure that we get our share of Indian classical music. In association with SPIC MACAY, Sanskriti regularly invites renowned artistes to our campus. In the past we have had Grammy winner Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt on Mohan Veena, Pt. Romu Mazumdar on flute, Pt. Bholanath Mishra, a renowned vocalist from Benaras Gharana, Ustaad Abdul Latif Khan on Saarangi. Such evenings are attended by IIM Indore community as well as SPICMACAY enthusiasts from and around the city of Indore.
Put in short, Sanskriti has the following mission:
To inculcate a sense of belongingness and to promote a culture of camaraderie, trust and harmony among the participants, by keeping the life full of vigour and excitement at IIM Indore. |
