With an objective to promote the progressive use of Official Language—Hindi in the Institute and resolve issues faced by the employees while working in Hindi in day-to-day official work, a Hindi Workshop was held at IIM Indore on June 29, 2017. Mr. Lalmani Shukla was the speaker for the workshop.
Mr. Jainath Yadav, Officer, Official Language Committee welcomed all the participants. He noted that the use of Hindi language has significantly increased in the last two years officially at IIM Indore. He also mentioned that such workshops intend to enhance the Hindi language usage and skills in the employees and help in clarifying their doubts related to Hindi grammar as well on a regular basis.
Col. Gururaj Gopinath Pamidi (Retd.), CAO, IIM Indore also addressed the gathering and congratulated the participants for the increase in the usage of Hindi as an official language. He said that every skill, language, talent requires continuous practice and updation along with constant usage to keep it alive. ‘If we stop the usage of Hindi as an official language, our language knowledge may also cease. Hence it is important to use the language as frequently as possible’, he said.
Mr. Shukla began his speech discussing about the difference between translation and transliteration. He noted that a good translation explains a particular sentence without changing its original meaning. While transliteration gives the extract of the sentence been said. He also discussed about various types of Hindi correspondence such as Office Notes, Circular, Office Memorandum, Office Orders and technical terminology and the kind of language and vocabulary to be used in each of them individually. Discussion about practical grammar problems faced by the employees while using Hindi in routine work also took place.
The workshop was attended by representatives from all the administrative departments of the Institute.
