IIM Indorefelicitated eminent industry partners during a ‘Thank You Meet’ organized on April 26, 2016. The meet was organized as a token of thanks to those Industry Partners who provided their support in conducting the Industry Interface Programme for 1st year PGP students. The programme was aimed at providing insights of the corporate world to the students of Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), wherein they visited various industries of different sectors and got a chance to study the practices there. Based on their understanding of the subject and under the mentorship of IIM Indore faculty, the students submitted a project report after studying the processes in detail.
Around 75 delegates from over 45 companiesgraced the occasion. The meet began with the formal lamp lighting ceremony by Professor Rishikesha T. Krishnan, Director, IIM Indore and Industry participants.
Mr. Somil Bajpayi, Officer, Industry Interface Office, IIM Indore welcomed the dignitaries. Professor NMK Bhatta, Chairman, Industry Interface Office gave the welcome address, wherein he appreciated the efforts put in by the industries to help the students gain knowledge. “When a Student group visits a company,it is more of a liability, as you have a set pattern of working, deadlines, targets to meet etc., and then you also have to teach the new person what needs to be done and how. I thank you all for your patience and the efforts you made to accommodate the student trainees into your routine so that they learn the practicality of the real corporate world’, he said.
This was followed by a talk by Professor Rishikesha T. Krishnan, Director, IIM Indore. While discussing about the changes in course curriculum according to the industry requirements, he mentioned that even though the curriculum is designed on the basis of suggestions received from the industry, IIM Indore needs to make itsstudents more application oriented. ‘The faculty is no doubt aware and updated of the latest technologies, concepts and research. But the classroom teaching requires more Industry orientation, which the students would get only from visiting industries’, he said. Congratulating the Industry Interface office, he also mentioned about the expert talk series started as a new initiative which covers a whole new range of subjects by experts from various fields.
Ms. Paramjeet Juneja, Director, CAPCO; Mr. Rajendra Jain, MD, ITL Industries; Mr. Mahesh Sharma, CEO, Flexituff International; Mr. Prafulla Nilosey, CEO, Bhandari Foils & Tubes Ltd; Dr Vikas Manjrekar, Executive Vice President, Avtec Limited; Mr. Saurabh Khare, DGM, Cummins Turbo and Mr. Shiv Kumar, President, Mittal Corp Ltd. spoke from the Industry side and shared their experiences in conducting this programme. Theyappreciated IIM Indore’s initiative in conducting this programme and offered some valuable suggestions in making it better in the coming years. They noted that the programme gave the students a chance to learn the difference between learning strategies and tactics in a class room and actually being able to apply them. It also enhanced their soft skills, which would help them to sustain in any industry. They noted that this programme is also beneficial for the industries, as they are able to get students who are sharp, who graduated from a top B-School, who have high grasping power and are innovative.
This was followed by a talk on Goods and Services Tax (GST) by Dr. S. B. Singh from Ernst & Young, wherein he discussed about the current indirect tax structure, proposed GST framework, GST legislative framework and impact of GST on industry as well as Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The talk was interactive and received very well by the Industry Partners.
