The most awaited annual management and cultural festival of IIM Indore, IRIS; was held at IIM Indore from October 23-25, 2015 with tons of enthusiasm, team-spirit and fervor. Around 4000 participants from across the nation assembled for more than 20 events from cultural, finance, marketing, HR, operations and strategy categories. The fest’s inaugural ceremony took place in the presence of Mr. Parmesh Shahani, Head of Godrej India Culture Lab, Author of Gay Bombay, TED & Yale World Fellow.
The event commenced with the formal lamp lightening ceremony, which was followed by the welcome address by Professor Ganesh Kumar Nidugala, Dean Academics, IIM Indore. Professor Nidugala mentioned that among various festivals like Dussehra, Eid, Diwali, etc.; IRIS is the one which enthralls all youngsters across the nation to come together for various management and cultural events.
Mr. Parmesh Shahani in his keynote address discussed about how one can improve the atmosphere we live in. ‘You run behind marks while in school, study hard, get admission in the top B-School and you would get placed with a good package. But think for once, is this what you want?’ Mr. Shahani questioned. He concluded his speech saying that this world requires an open culture where people can be what they actually are. He noted that we need to leave behind the hypocrisy & diplomacy and allow the diversity of thoughts and opinions to be shared easily.
Dr. Mrs. Janak Palta McGilligan, Padma Shri Awardee, Founder Trustee of Jimmy McGilligan Centre for Sustainable Development and a Social Worker also gave a speech sharing her personal experiences and mentioned how family support is extremely important for us. ‘You don’t have the choice as how you may die, but you do have the choice how you live your life. So do something that is great for you and others’, she mentioned.
Envision, the speaker series of IRIS, gave students an opportunity to interact and learn from two industry professionals, Mr. Rangarajan Seshadri, CEO, Neeyamo and Mr. Pradeep Karambelkar, Key Promoter, Vision Advisory. Mr. Seshadri gave an overview of the challenges and opportunities faced by professionals in the field of Human Resources Consulting and Outsourcing. He shed light on managing cross-cultural diversity and leveraging technology and HR analytics to outsource operational HR.
Mr. Pradeep Karambelkar enlightened the audience about the role his company played in bringing about a change in the way financial services and investment planning solutions are perceived today, with his innovative product called ‘Investment Shoppee’.
TVF Pitchers Show
The fest also witnessed the best entertainers of the Online World, Vipul Goyal, Nidhi Bisht, Deepak Mishra and Abhay Mahajan from TVF Pitchers, who entertained the crowd with their contemporary drama and humor. The concept, dialogues, and characters resonated well with the youth audience of the campus.
The fest had various management events, like Kalpvriksha, the social B-Plan competition powered by Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, Ashwamedha, the ‘leadership, soul searching and self-intervention’ event; Gordian Knot, with its rounds focusing on Growth Hacking, Value Chain Management and Channel Management and the mentorship event Drona, which included a talk on ‘Entrepreneurship and MBA’ by Professor D.L. Sundar, Faculty, IIM Indore and Professor K.K. Jain, Faculty, IIM Indore. Events like FinLeague, Entrepid, Zero One Infinity and Chain Reaction also witnessed lots of participants.
Cultural Events included Lasya, Laavanya, Voice of Indore and Pratibimb along with other competitions. Some of the other events which took place during the fest were AdApt- The Marketing, Advertising and Communications Event, Jigyaasa- The General Knowledge Quiz, My Campaign- The Marketing Social Communication Event, Beat the Market, Neetishastra and Distortion.
The fest concluded on Sunday, October 25, 2015, with the rocking performance by Bollywood’s Number One DJ, DJ Nyk, who thrilled the youngsters with amazing tracks and beats and reminiscing loud thumps. The performance gave a break to the participants from the routine life while the crazy happy souls felt the magic!
The fest, IRIS 2015 concluded not only as a fest, but also as an experience that is to be cherished by everyone involved, be it the participants, the volunteers and the organizing teams who have worked tirelessly to deliver fantastic events.
