IRIS is the annual Management-Cultural Festival at IIM-Indore. Begun in 2001, it now stands as its own legacy, with a premise to get bigger and better, with each passing year. It is an amalgamation of talent and action; top talent and the best brains from across the country on one single platform, on the race to glory.
Top Institutes from across the country head over to Indore, each October to partake of the fun, at IRIS, IIM-Indore.
IRIS began in 2001 and grew slowly but steadily, adding new events each year. In 2008 it was split into two separate events- Mridang, the Cultural Fest which would take place in February and Ahvan, the Management Fest which would continue to occupy the October time that Iris had. This set-up continued until 2013 when Iris was reborn, one entity as a merger of two others.
Over the past few years, participation in Ahvan and Mridang has increased many-folds along with the increased involvement of several top-notch corporate houses. In 2013, IIM Indore received participation of close to 10,000 students from more than 50 Premier B-Schools across the country.
At Ahvan 2013, IIM Indore set out in its quest to find the future business leaders across various domains. The events at Ahvan have evolved over a period of time to include several themes spread across various management domains. Every business graduate worth his salt has something in store for him at Ahvan, be it finance, business consulting or sales and marketing. Some of the flagship events at Ahvan are Ashwamedha, Neetishastra, Chanakya, Kluless, Gordian Knot and Kalpavriksha. Ahvan 2013 witnessed participation from over 50 premier B-Schools across the nation who battled it out across several events that tested their managerial acumen. In addition, several notable speakers ranging from the Chief Economist at Crisil, Mr. D. K. Joshi to the Head, Strategy Marketing at HCL, Mr. Krishnan Chatterjee and Brand Consultant, Mr. Amit Shrivastava graced the event. The sponsors for Ahvan 2013 were Central Bank of India, Cognizant, The Bombay Stock Exchange, Videocon, Teach for India, Sudarshan Chemicals, PETA etc.
In 2013, Mridang, the annual cultural festival made its presence felt across the state of Madhya Pradesh with its attempt to break the World Record for the Largest Glass Mosaic. Other events such as Lavanya (Fashion Show), Laasya (Dance), Bazinga and Distortion (Rock Show) received participation from over 40+ B-Schools. The major sponsors for Mridang 2013 were UCO Bank, DainikBhaskar, Coca Cola,Home Shop TV 18, WildCraft, Bank of India, 92.7 Red FM, Barista etc.
A Guinness World Record attempt is made each year. The attempt usually ends in the successful creation of a world record. Past attempts include the largest soap mosaic which aimed at awareness about the importance of hygiene, hand-washing in specific.
With its events, IIM Indore also touched upon several initiatives in the social sector. Jagriti was an attempt to reach out the under-privileged school children in and around the city of Indore. With events such as My Campaign and Kalpavriksha, the participants, made use of the business principles to develop social campaigns and promoted entrepreneurship in the social sector. All these events were covered by the leading dailies such as Times of India, The Indian Express, DainikBhaskar, NaiDuniya etc.
IRIS has seen sponsorship from companies across various domains including banks, FMCG and e-commerce.
