Leadership Development Programme for
Doctors in Frontline Service during COVID -19
As part of the Institutional Social Responsibility Initiative by IIM Indore

Doctors are often not thanked enough for their selfless contributions to the wellbeing of mankind. They spend enormous hours working in some of the most difficult conditions to save the lives of our loved ones. The COVID-19 crisis that has overwhelmed India over the last year has been a challenge unlike any other in recent history. While the nation protected its citizens from the pandemic by enforcing lockdowns and establishing healthcare infrastructure, it was the frontline workers who had to fight the invisible enemy, despite the known risk to their life.
Amongst all these commendable frontline fighters, IIM Indore wishes to express its gratitude to the Doctors who faced this challenge first and helped the nation get through these difficult times. Despite being underequipped, short-staffed, overworked, and away from their families for weeks at end, these Doctors have been determined to save each patient who sought their attention. It is such selfless service from the Doctors which has given the nation overcome the first and second waves of COVID-19.
As part of IIM Indore’s Institutional Social Responsibility initiative, the institute would impart Leadership Development Training for 100 select doctors for a duration of 70 hours. The programme is named “Kritajna” to express IIM Indore’s gratitude to the selfless service of frontline Doctors. The training programme is a Short Duration Certificate Programme which will include contemporary topics of interest for Doctors, including Leadership, Negotiations, Conflict Management, Effective Communication Skills, Understanding New-age Technology, Service Operations, Financial Management, etc. The programme is designed to impart competencies in Leadership, Management, and Entrepreneurship to participating Doctors.
The major learning outcomes from the programme are:
- To impart participating Doctors with insights on the best Leadership and Management practices.
- To help appreciate the importance of Transformational Leadership and Interpersonal effectiveness in the healthcare system.
- To help participants develop the right strategies for Negotiation, Conflict Management, and Change Management.
- To help Doctors understand the process of Decision Making under uncertainty and in the context of Ethical dilemmas.
- To inculcate the strategic used of Effective Communication.
- To enable an understanding of New-age Technologies and Digital Practices as change agents for transformation in the healthcare domain.
- To provide participants with world-class Service and Operations Management concepts for a smoother hospital administration.
- To impart key insights about Financial Management practices.
Who Should Apply?
The programme is open to doctors who have served in frontline duty during the COVID-19 pandemic in India during 2020 and 2021. The programme will be effective in nurturing leadership, managerial, and entrepreneurial skills in doctors at all levels of their career. The programme is open for doctors serving in both the Government as well as Private sector hospitals.
IIM Indore invites Hospital Administrations (both Government sector and Private) to nominate Doctors from their respective hospitals for this programme by following the process outlined here. Doctors who would like to nominate themselves or their colleagues can also apply for the programme by using the above link.
IIM Indore’s expert committee will identify the most deserving 100 Doctors to be part of this initiative. Nominations/Applications should be complete with respect to all requisite details. Last date for submission of applications through the online Link is 20 July 2021.
The programme will be delivered over the online platform, at convenient times for the Doctors to participate. Sessions would be scheduled on alternate weekends from 31st July 2021 to 07th November 2021. Participants will be provided reading materials for each course, where necessary.
There will be total 40 sessions of 75 minutes each during the programme. These sessions will be delivered online. The sessions will be delivered on alternative weekends. The normal timing of the sessions will be as follows:

|Sunday, Second session||02:30 PM to 03:45 PM|

Participating doctors will also be required to complete a project which will take approximately 20 hours’ worth effort. IIM Indore faculty will mentor the participants to complete the project.
The programme will be delivered through broadband infrastructure to deliver real-time, synchronous, live education to all participants. It is a multi-modal, multimedia e-learning platform that provides an immersive e-learning experience that is almost as good as a real classroom experience.
The interaction is live and uses high-quality video, audio, and data transfer. Courses will be delivered through Direct-to-Device (D2D) mode and courses can be accessed by smartphone/tablet/laptop/desktop. Participants can attend sessions from any location in the country having functional/continuous internet connectivity of at least 2mbps or higher. They may interact with the concerned faculty through email or chat.
Participants are expected to attend all sessions of a given course. However, Participants may take leave on account of emergencies etc., subject to the approval of the Programme Coordinator. However, 75% minimum attendance requirement would be considered to complete the programme.
The pedagogy follows a judicious blend of methodologies that include Lectures, Case studies, Games, Real-life examples and Projects.
IIM Indore will provide ‘Certificate of Participation’ to participants after they had successfully attended the programme.
There is no fee for the programme. The programme will be completely free for all 100 selected Doctors and all costs of the programme will be covered by the institute.
