Dr. Biswanath Swain is currently an Associate Professor of Ethics at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore, India. He earned his PhD degree from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, and MA and MPhil from University of Hyderabad.
He teaches courses such as Ethics in Business Management (EPGP and EFPM), Seminar Course on Marketing Ethics (FPM), Ethics and CSR (PGP), Marketing Ethics (PGP), Stakeholder Management (PGP), Values, Ethics & Governance (PGP), Contemporary Moral Issues (IPM), Ethics and Society (IPM), Media Ethics (IPM), and Philosophy: A Tool of Sustainability (IPM) at IIM Indore.
At IIM Indore, he has been offering innovative Management Development Programmes (MDPs) on Marketing Ethics and Organizational Ethics and Values, and Stakeholder Management: Key to Ethical and Sustainable Business, apart from offering a unique Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Marketing Ethics.
His research primarily focusses on the issues in Core Ethics, Marketing Ethics, Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Organizational Ethics, and Ethics & Business Sustainability, Philosophy of Action and Agency.
His research is published in the journals including Journal of Business Ethics (FT 50 and ‘A’ as per ABDC classification), Journal of Business & Industrial Marketing (‘A’ as per ABDC classification), Journal of International Business Education (‘B’ as per ABDC classification), Social Responsibility Journal (‘B’ as per ABDC classification).
His solo as well as co-authored research papers on these areas of ethics are presented at various international conferences held in the countries, including Australia (Perth), France (Nice), Georgia (Tbilisi), Germany (Cologne), Hungary (Budapest), Japan (Tokyo and Sapporo), Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Portugal (Lisbon), Spain (Santander), UAE (Abu Dhabi), UK (Oxford and Buxton), and USA (New York and Chicago) – along with the presentations at premier academic institutes in India like IIM Calcutta, IIM Kashipur, and IIT Delhi.
He has also been associated with some of the reputable academic societies, institutes, and associations: a) member of Society for Business Ethics (SBE), b) member in the Academic Advisory Committee of Global Corporate Governance Institute – One of the largest international associations focusing on responsible business, and c) member in the Board of Studies, Manipal Centre for Business Practice (MCBP), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) - an Institute of Eminence recognized by, Department of Education, Government of India.
He has also been associated with International Journal of Corporate Social Responsibility (a springer publication) by being a member in its Editorial Board.
