The last decade has seen more than a significant transformation. On one hand, US President Donald Trump is speaking of ‘deglobalisation’ and erection of new walls (read Mexican Wall), a socialist market economy like China is extolling the virtues of globalization. When we consider the already existing economies like China and potentially strong emerging markets like Turkey one comes across various scenarios which challenge the established notions of doing business. The emergence of emerging/frontier markets provides different kinds of opportunities for investors and entrepreneurs. However these opportunities are imbued with certain degree of risks. This MDP seeks to introduce the various perspectives dealing with factors like political risks, ‘institutional voids’/weaker institutional environments. The MDP is going to be conducted over a period of three days. The modules to be covered during the three days are a) Introduction: Why do Business in Emerging Markets in a Globalized World b) Political and Legal Environment (with special focus on China) c) Role of Innovation in Emerging Markets and d) Understating and appreciating the cultural nuances in negotiating unfamiliar landscapes and corresponding challenges.
The MDP is going to be conducted over a period of three days. The modules to be covered during the three days are as follows:
Module 1 Introduction: Why do Business in Emerging Markets in a Globalized World? (3 sessions)
This module would dwell into the rationale of investing and appreciating the relevance of these markets.
Module 2: Political and Legal Environment (3 sessions)
Once the introductory module dealing with the rationale of doing business in emerging markets is done the next question that props in our minds are the myriad challenges that one is confronted with due to unique business and government relations, translucent and sometimes opaque institutional mechanisms, the difficult terrain comprising of the political and legal environment.
Module 3: Role of Innovation (3 sessions)
Once the participants are familiar with the political and legal environment we would introduce them to some very innovative ways of doing business in emerging markets. This module would comprise of two sessions
Module 4: Cultural Determinants of Business (3 sessions)
The concluding section would deal with understating and appreciating the cultural nuances in negotiating unfamiliar socio-cultural landscapes and corresponding challenges.

This three day MDP is designed for participants who will be dealing with emerging/frontier markets in terms of investing, working in profit/non-profit, working for government agencies, intergovernmental organizations. Participants will be encouraged to wholeheartedly participate in case discussions. The focus will be largely on one established emerging market like China and another market which is very promising but outside the BRICS economies. The course is designed keeping in mind senior and middle management professionals aspiring to work or invest in emerging/frontier markets
