This three day program will provide an understanding of the macroeconomic variables, policies that affect businesses with a specific reference to India.
- To understand the key variables describing a country’s macro economy, and the inter-relationships between these variables
- To discuss the recent performance of these variables and how their performance is modulated by the government’s fiscal and monetary policies & how these variables affect the firms’ domestic business environment
- To understand the world trade and financial system, India’s exposure to and interface with the same, and how domestic and foreign economic policies impact trade performance
- To know the Indian tax system, the Union budget and their role in operationalizing the government’s economic policies.
- Basic concepts in macroeconomics: National income concepts such as GDP and GNP, aggregate demand and its components, measurement of inflation etc.
- Monetary Policy: Components of money, the role of the Central Bank, role of monetary policy to counter business cycles.
- Fiscal Policy: Union budget, Different types of taxes, Budget deficits, role of fiscal policy to counter business cycles.
- External Sector: Balance of payments, exchange rate determination, important drivers of exchange rate and international parity relationships.
- WTO and India’s international trade: Overview of WTO, Regional trade agreements, India’s international trade and trade policies.
- International monetary system: evolution of international monetary system with focus on Bretton Woods System of exchange rate. A case sudy on Indian Rupee Crisis will be taken up to to understand the application of concepts deceloped in the programme.
