The most awaited IIM Indore & NASMEI (North American Society for Marketing Education in India) 2019 Summer Marketing & Information Systems Conference began at IIM Indore on July 26, 2019. The three day event kicked-off with three pre-conference workshops as follows:
- Teaching with Cases by Prof. Philip Charles Zerrillo, Lee Kong Chian School of Business, Singapore.
- Conducting Meaningful Research by Prof. Satish Nargundkar, J Mack Robinson College of Business Georgia State University.
- Latent Variable Modelling by Prof. Arunachalam S, Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.
Prof. Zerrillo’s workshop was about writing research papers effectively and the importance of research. The workshop focused on improving teaching techniques using business cases.
Prof. Nargundakar conducted a parallel workshop in which he shared his own experience of becoming a professor. He explained the differences between analytics and statistics, pedagogical research and hypothesis creation. He said that publishing in top journals in any field has always been a challenge for any of the researchers. He also provided key insights about what it takes to be a part of the big league.
The third workshop was by Prof. Arunachalam S, which had two prolonged objectives—to make the participants well versed with the critical analysis methodology of Structural Equation Modelling; and the second to make the participants understand the correct applications of this tool depending on context as well as type of data and variables involved.
The conference in the coming two days will witness over 300 paper presentations of the shortlisted candidates from among the 500 candidates who applied for the conference. The paper presentation tracks include themes like App Based Marketing, Business to Business Marketing, Brand Management, Consumer Behavior, Corporate Image, Digital Marketing, Games and Marketing, Financial Marketing, Organizational Behavior & Human Resources, Marketing Education, Artificial Intelligence, Purchase Intention, Social Media, Smart Products, Technology & Marketing, Advertisement, Analytics, Ethics in Marketing, etc.
Selected papers from the conference will have an opportunity to get published in a conference special issue of the Journal of Indian Business Research (ABDC classification C). Emerald Publications will be publishing the abstract in the form of conference proceedings. Further, the best paper award will be awarded as a cash prize which is sponsored by Emerald. The total amount of cash prizes is Rs. 50,000; which will be distributed in three categories.
The second day of the conference would witness a formal inauguration ceremony. The Industry Meet 2019 will also be conducted on the second day of the conference. The theme of this years’ Industry Meet is Empowering MSMEs. The Chief Guest for the Industry Meet would be Mr. R. S. Sachdev, COO, VE Commercials. The Meet will also have a panel discussion on the theme.
