IIM Indore celebrated the 75th Independence Day with full patriotism and fervour on August 15, 2021. Prof. Himanshu Rai, Director, IIM Indore hoisted the tricolour on this occasion in the presence of Col. Gururaj Gopinath Pamidi (Retd.), CAO, IIM Indore and all the community members.
Prof. Rai in his Independence Day address focused on the difference between a nation and a country. ‘A country has a geographical land mass, people and sovereignty; while the nation has a fourth element added to it – the culture. This is the foundation on which we should create a new, just and vibrant world’, he said. Sharing his views on developing a stronger nation, he said that yoga, non-violence, and unity in diversity will help India grow and prosper in the forthcoming years. ‘Yoga is a vital part of our culture and so is Ayurveda. A healthy mind resides in a healthy body, and keeping the same idea in mind, IIM Indore has built up an organic garden – Sanjeevani. ‘We are going to organize regular yoga workshops for the community throughout the year, and distribute herbs from Sanjeevani, free of cost to anyone who wants that’, he said.
Speaking of the importance of non-violence, he mentioned that words cut deeper than physical injuries and hence, one needs to ensure using the correct choice of words. ‘You need to practise nonviolence for self – do not carry hatred in mind, do not carry guilt in the heart and live freely’, he said. He also noted that our India, is a nation of unity in diversity and that is what our strength is. ‘India has different religions, languages, habits, cuisines and culture and rituals. This is the beauty of our country; we have always believed in unity despite being diverse. It’s time that we speak in one voice, focus on one vision and mission and work together to grow stronger as a family, together’, he concluded.
On this occasion, nominated staff members were felicitated for their exceptional work. A tree plantation drive was also conducted, wherein the IIM Indore community members planted 75 trees on 75th Independence Day.
The students and the school-going children of the community shared their poetry, paintings, songs, and artwork on this occasion on the theme Aazadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav – India in Olympics. Their work was shared on IIM Indore’s social media platforms.
