Online learning programme—Certificate Programme in Project Management was inaugurated at IIM Indore on January 30, 2021. The programme is being conducted in collaboration with TSW Times Professional Learning. The inauguration took place virtually in the presence of Professor Ranjeet Nambudiri, Dean-Programmes, IIM Indore; Faculty Coordinators Professor Rohit Kapoor and Professor Sujay Mukhoti; Professor Prashant Salwan, Chair, Executive Education and Mr. Anish Srikrishna, CEO, TSW Times Professional Learning; along with all the 121 registered participants.
‘We are delighted to launch the largest batch of an online programme at IIM Indore till date. This programme is equipped with a curriculum which will enable the participants to gain skill sets, which will help India achieve the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ mission. In current resource constrained environment, flip by government policies and investment , project management capabilities, a strong and disciplined project management practices will drive an organization forward and develop economic value’, said Prof. Himanshu Rai, Director, IIM Indore.
Professor Nambudiri congratulated the new batch for choosing this course. ‘Despite the pandemic, there has been a constant demand for project managers; and in the next ten years there would be 70 lacs new jobs for project management. Project Managers are required in every industry—since it’s not a specific skill anymore and is required in every functional area. This skill is highlighted by the employers while recruiting, since it improves your productivity at your workplace. Hence, having a professional certification in Project Management will be useful for the participants, since it is contextually relevant and will upgrade the participants’ skills’, he said.
Professor Salwan said that disciplined project management starts at the portfolio level, where the strategic vision drives initial investments and where value measures are established. ‘With little room for error and fewer resources to rely on, project management expertise and oversight is helping organizations streamline their delivery process, cut costs and sidestep risks, enabling them to ride out the recession and implement stronger project management practices for the future’, he said. With the right resources, a clear timeframe for delivery and senior leadership support, a strong and disciplined project management practices will drive an organization forward, he added.
Faculty Coordinators Professor Kapoor and Professor Mukhoti gave a brief introduction of the course curriculum. They noted that the programme focuses on teaching proven strategies and practical and hand-on tools to drive successful project outcomes. The curriculum includes key components of selecting, initiating, planning, executing, controlling, evaluating and even terminating projects. ‘The programme is contextually designed for working executives and focuses on real business use cases’, they said.
Mr. Srikrishna welcomed the new batch and expressed his delight for collaborating with IIM Indore. He said that IIM Indore has been Ranked #7 in NIRF Rankings, and has been the leading business school with a Triple Crown. Project Management is a subject with lot to learn and hence is a critical activity involved in all fields. ‘A great project manager is who is skilled, is organized and can multitask. This curriculum involves the art as well as the science of being a skilled manager’, he said. He also noted that the batch has participants from various fields and this would provide an opportunity to the participants to learn from each other as well.
The inaugural also provided a platform to the participants for interacting with the faculty members and getting answers to their queries.
