The inauguration of the Executive Certificate Programme in Strategy and Leadership for Senior Professionals (Batch-1) began virtually at IIM Indore on April 17, 2021. Seventy participants from engineering, science, commerce, arts and other backgrounds have registered for this programme, which is being conducted in association with Times TSW. The programme was inaugurated by Professor Himanshu Rai, Director, IIM Indore; in the presence of Professor DL Sunder & Professor Sushanta Kumar Mishra (Programme Coordinators & Faculty, IIM Indore); Professor Subin Sudhir, Chairperson, Executive Education and Mr. Anish Srikrishna, President and CEO, Times Professional Learning.
Professor Rai in his address shared three important factors which affect leadership. ‘Purpose, Passion, Compassion and Grit are the qualities which make a person a successful leader. You need to think and get a vision about what kind of world you want to live in, and create that world for yourself, he said. He added that a leader cannot be restricted to a vision, but also needs to have imagination to develop a sense of ‘purpose’. ‘A successful leader knows his or her purpose and is perseverant to achieve his or her goals. You may fail once or twice—but failing doesn’t make you a failure; you become a failure once you stop trying’, he explained. He encouraged the participants to develop ‘passion’ and ‘compassion’, and work devotedly to accomplish their goals. Sharing the mission of IIM Indore, Professor Rai also stated that the course has been designed keeping in mind world class academics which is contextually relevant and which will help the participants become socially conscious. ‘Hard work and determination give you ‘grit’; which helps you become successful’, he concluded.
Mr. Srikrishna welcomed the new batch to the programme. Expressing his delight over collaborating with IIM Indore he said, ‘IIM Indore is one of the top B-schools in India and is the second IIM with a Triple Crown Accreditation. The programme aims to hone one’s skills and help understand the nuances of leadership, and develop the strategic skills required in an organization. The course will enrich participant’s understanding with brilliant lectures and interactive sessions by the IIM Indore faculty’, he said.
Professor DL Sunder & Professor Sushanta Kumar Mishra congratulated the participants for joining the programme. Professor Sunder encouraged the participants to share their own experience with the peers, which would help them learn more outside the classrooms. Professor Mishra mentioned that the programme will help in understanding the facets of strategy and leadership via video-based lectures and discussions.
Professor Subin Sudhir noted that the pandemic has provided us the time to think about pacing ourselves and achieving our goals in a better and systematic fashion. He noted that understanding one’s role and goals and the ability to remain humble and embrace both success and failure with dignity help a person grow professionally and personally—and these qualities are important for various senior leadership positions.
The first batch of this new programme consists of participants from Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana, Gujarat, Delhi, Assam, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
