Vigilance Awareness Week was observed at IIM Indore on October 28, 2020. The objective of the event was to encourage all the stakeholders of the Institute to collectively participate in the prevention of, and fight against corruption; and to raise public awareness regarding the existence, causes and gravity of and the threat possessed by corruption.
Professor Himanshu Rai, Director, IIM Indore addressed the virtual gathering and noted that the theme of this year’s vigilance week is – ‘Vigilant India, Prosperous India’ and we all need to join hands together and contribute to nation building. ‘According to me, corruption is perversion of integrity. If a person isn’t following his or her duties with full integrity, he or she is a corrupt person. Now onwards, let us not only focus on doing the right thing, but also find ways on how to the best thing and take right decisions—as this would help us take the nation forward’, he said. He noted that we need to understand our purpose and identity irrespective of the designation we hold or the job we have and introspect and find ways in which we can contribute to the nation—rather than blaming others. ‘Let us perform all the duties in a way that we set a positive example for others. Let us pledge to remain honest and always use our full capabilities—which would help in improving our surroundings and motivate others around us’, he concluded.
This was followed by Integrity Pledge, wherein the community acknowledged its responsibility to lead by example and the need to put in place safeguards, integrity frameworks and code of ethics to ensure that not being a part of any corrupt practice.
