Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore), Army Training Command (ARTRAC), and its subsidiary, the Army War College (AWC), are premier institutes known for professional excellence and the highest standards of research work in their respective fields. The institutions have been collaborating to conduct training and professional discourse. The Golden Jubilee of AWC and the Silver Jubilee of IIM Indore in 2021 are ideal for the two institutes to take the ongoing collaboration to the next level. Hence, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed on February 09, 2022. Prof. Himanshu Rai, Director, IIM Indore and Lieutenant General Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, Chief of Staff, Headquarter of Army Training Command, signed the MoU. Lieutenant General V.S. Sreenivas PVSM, AVSM**, Commandant Army War College was also present on occasion.
Prof. Himanshu Rai said that IIM Indore is always eager to contribute to nation-building. This MoU is a small step towards contributing towards strengthening the nation and enhancing the defence-academia collaboration. ‘We are delighted to sign an MoU with AWC for a wide range of academic and research collaborations. The objective of this collaboration is to create ‘Warrior Scholars’, and learn from, and grow with each other’, he said. He noted that under the MoU, IIM Indore will be offering the Executive Fellow Programme in Management and Governance (EFPMG), meant for serving armed forces personnel only. The nomination and selection of the participants for this programme would be formulated between IIM Indore and AWC as per the requirement. AWC/ ARTRAC will select serving and eligible army officers every year who holds a postgraduate degree in a management discipline and will forward their names duly approved to IIM Indore for the admission process. The selection committee will make the selection as per merit. After completing the programme, the award of the degree would be governed by the Ph.D. rules and regulations.
Sharing his delight over collaboration with IIM Indore, Lieutenant General Jaswinder Singh Sandhu noted that IIM Indore is one of the leading management institutes that has teamed up with the government for solving societal and administrative issues by providing research-based solutions. ‘It is a pleasure to collaborate with such a reputed institute that takes initiatives to contribute to the betterment of the society and nation as a whole’, he said. He mentioned that AWC will also be undertaking research work in leadership and allied subjects. The involvement of Research Scholars of IIM Indore will infuse fresh ideas and open new perspectives in the research work. Every year, three research scholars/ interns (students) would be nominated from IIM Indore for research work on the topics sponsored by AWC. These topics would include the contemporary issues dealt with by the Indian Army. The research scholars will be given a certificate from AWC endorsing their contribution to the research projects undertaken for the Indian Army.
Lieutenant General V.S. Sreenivas PVSM, AVSM**, Commandant Army War College, said that the MoU will pave the way for academic association in the fields of Higher Education Programme for serving army officers and for the certification from IIM Indore for leadership training conducted in Army War College and joint research between the two institutions on contemporary topics. ‘The event is momentous as this is the first MoU between Indian Army and IIM Indore and it will go a long way in enhancing Professional Military Education of a large cross-section of officer cadre’, he said.
The collaborative conduct of leadership training in workshops/ibid capsules between IIM Indore and AWC would further evolve and formalize.
This MoU will be valid for three years.
