IIM Indore conducted a guest talk by Mr. Rajagopalan Purushothaman, Sr. VP, Reliance Industries Ltd on August 04, 2018. He was welcomed by Professor Prashant Salwan, Faculty, IIM Indore. Mr. Purushothaman discussed about Artificial Intelligence and Capabilities Building, & Redefining Customer Value Proposition for Petro-Retailing.
Mr. Purushothaman began his talk sharing how Reliance reached rank 148 from 203 in Global Fortune 500 Rankings. ‘We used artificial intelligence to enhance our performance and achieved this rank’, he said. Mr. Purushothaman shared his insights on role of AI in improving learning and enhancing knowledge sharing in the retail sectors especially in petrochemical which is his forte.
He also highlighted the need for change in education sector in India, recommending challenge-based learning also, citing the Hole in the Wall experiment. He explained in detail how Reliance Industries in planning to change the face of Petrochemical Retailing in India by leveraging the Automated Learning and knowledge sharing, which does not come as a surprise as RIL has always pioneered when it comes to technological advancement.
He then shared his views on artificial intelligence’s effect on organisation capabilities upgradation and developing unique customer value preposition. He also talked on how RIL development value preposition in petro retail using artificial intelligence. He also discussed the business model for the RIL and how they keep updating their strategies on a regular basis.
It was a great learning experience for IIM Indore students to have strategic marketing lessons from an industry expert. The talk was attended by participants and faculty members of the Institute.
