The event commenced with lamp lighting by Mr. Shukla; Mr. Bharat Dave, Senior Manager, Bombay Stock Exchange and Professor Abhishek Mishra, Chair, Industry Interface Office and Faculty, IIM Indore.
Mr. Shulka spoke on the importance of capital market and why regulators are important. He said that every market, be it corporate, manufacturing or stock, needs time to grow and develop and deliver outcomes. ‘Every market needs to understand that what kind of capital is required by itself and what product it should be investing in’, he said. He then shared two main objectives of SEBI—protecting the interest of the investors and encouraging innovation for development. He also spoke about stock market’s efficiency, which depends largely upon transparency, robust enforcement, avoiding conflict of interest, better corporate governance, etc. Speaking of mutual funds and advancement in technology, he said that stock market also relies on new technology and apps. ‘Always make sure to check where you’re investing and with whom you’re investing. Do not fall for some trap or technical glitches. Make sure you always invest with the brokers who’re registered with SEBI.
Mr. Bharat Dave, Senior Manager, Bombay Stock Exchange also then addressed the gathering. He shared a presentation on ‘Empowering Investors Through BSE Investors Awareness Programme’. Sharing why investment is important, Mr. Dave said that one should always invest to earn returns of idle resources and get second source of income. ‘This would also help to beat inflation and generate a specified sum of money for a specific goal in life and make provisions for an uncertain future. For this you need to invest with knowledge and spend what’s left after saving. Make financial planning considering tax implementation’, he said. He encouraged the participants to save money today, so that money is able to save our future. He said that before investing, one should enter into proper client broker agreement and read all the documents properly before investing. He encouraged the young management students to go for Systematic Investment Plan, Systematic Transfer Plan and Systematic Withdrawal Plan schemes.
The session concluded with a Q&A round by the students from various management institutions from Indore and nearby cities. The guests appreciated the efforts put in by the Industry Interface Office, IIM Indore for smoothly conducting the event and ensured collaborating for such future sessions too.
