IIM Indore is delighted to start a fully-automated circulation service at its Learning Center (IIMI LC). The LC users can now search, borrow, renew, and reserve the required LC materials with the help of RFID Phase 2 Kiosks. Prof. Himanshu Rai, Director, IIM Indore, inaugurated the three kiosks on January 03, 2021. Prof. Bipul Kumar, Chair-Library; Prof. Pritam Ranjan, Dean-Research and Col. Gururaj Gopinath Pamidi (Retd.), CAO, IIM Indore were also present on occasion.
Sharing his fondness of reading books, Prof. Rai said that reading helps a person grow professionally and personally. ‘The more your read books of different genres, the more you realize how there is so much more to know. Books help us travel through time, to different places and make us aware of our ignorance’, he said. A library plays a significant role in helping us recognize how much more can be learned, thereby motivating us to read more and more books, he added.
Col. Pamidi congratulated the IIMI LC staff members for the successful installation of the kiosk. Prof. Bipul Kumar mentioned various features of the kiosks that would help the users in a swift, smooth and faster process at the Learning Centre. The kiosk would facilitate automated entry and exit in the Learning Centre using a smart card. The users can borrow, renew and return the material through the kiosks and check their LC account (an overdue charge, number of materials borrowed, history, etc.). The kiosks also allow the user to obtain a transaction print. The kiosks also provide a platform for accessing the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC), wherein the users can search, reserve, and renew their borrowed materials.
The kiosks will help reduce the time spent on searching, obtaining, borrowing and renewing the materials, and will help the users in a faster process.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Bipul Kumar.
