Shri S.S. Mundra, Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India, delivered a talk on A peep into Central Banking at IIM Indore on October 26, 2015.
Shri Mundra in his interesting talk focused upon turbulent global economic scenario and its implications for Indian monetary policy. He also discussed changing landscape of Indian financial system in form of entry of new financial institutions such as Payment Banks, two new private sector banks, and Small Finance Banks, which are expected to increase financial inclusion.
He mentioned about the changing socio-economic profile of the country, and its implications for the business model of the financial institutions. ‘To meet these challenges, we need to build an institutional capacity that can provide improved regulation while fostering competition in the financial system’, Shri Mundra concluded.
The talk was followed by a Q&A Session wherein the participants shared their queries about central banking and its pros and cons. The talk was attended by students, staff and faculty of IIM Indore.
