IIM Indore initiated a series of “by invitation only” workshops, targeted at senior management with an Innovation Workshop held at The Leela-Bangalore on July 17, 2015 organized in collaboration with the NHRD-Bangalore Chapter.
The workshop titled, ‘From Jugaad to Systematic Innovation – Role of Senior Leadership‘ was led by Prof. Rishikesha T. Krishnan, Director, IIM Indore, and followed by a panel discussion.
Prof. Krishnan, who is the co-author of the award-winning book ‘8 Steps to Innovation: Going from Jugaad to Excellence’ shared his insights on ways to embed innovation in an organization and make it a part of its DNA. He shared pointers with crisp examples on what senior leadership in organization needs to do in terms of building idea pipeline, improving idea velocity, improving batting average, building better participation from employees and managing risks through open innovation. Discussing the Innovation Model, he suggested ways to assess and measure the innovation journey in the organization from Level 1 (Jugaad) to level 5 (Excellence).
The panel discussion had four panelists, namely Dr. Manish Gupta, Director, Xerox India Research Centre, Mr. Kairas Vakharia, Sr. V.P. Innovation (Automotive & Farm Business) & Business Head Construction Equipment, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Dr. Rajeev Rastogi, Director Machine Learning, Amazon and Ms. Bidisha Nagaraj, Group President-Marketing, Café Coffee Day. They shared their experiences in nurturing innovation in their organizations. The panel discussion was moderated by Prof. Krishnan.
Based on his experience at Xerox and other leading technology companies, Dr. Manish Gupta emphasized the importance of aligning technology with the right applications.
Mr. Vakharia explained how innovation at Mahindra and Mahindra straddles the entire value chain and ranges from grass-root level innovation to product innovation and finally to disruptive innovation.
Dr. Rastogi emphasized the centrality of the customer to innovation at Amazon. He predicted that the use of drones for same day delivery is not far away.
Ms. Nagaraj explained how innovation at Café Coffee Day if focused on enhancing the consumer experience and providing customer delight.
The workshop was well attended by around 77 corporate leaders across functions.
