Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore) hosted its 16th Annual Convocation at the Brilliant Convention Centre on Saturday, March 28, 2015. The occasion witnessed a two-day convocation ceremony with eminent dignitaries of the industry and society drawn together in an engaging alliance.
The convocation is held each year to confer the title of the Fellow of Indian Institute of Management Indore for its Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) and diplomas to the successful participants of Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), Post Graduate Programme in Management-UAE (PGP-UAE), Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP), Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP-Mumbai) and Post Graduate Programme in Management MX-Mumbai (PGPMX, Mumbai).
During the Convocation, 14 FPM participants received the title of Fellow of IIM Indore. 455 participants of PGP, 48 participants of PGP-UAE, and 55 participants of PGP-Mumbai received the Post Graduate Diploma in Management. 47 participants of EPGP and 20 participants of PGPMX-Mumbai received the Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Management.
The Annual Convocation began with a colourful convocation procession where the Chief Guest, Board and faculty members of IIM Indore walked through the precincts of the Brilliant convention Centre towards the convocation venue. Shri K.V. Kamath, Chairman, IIM Indore, then declared the annual convocation open and delivered the welcome address.
In his address, Shri Kamath observed that India is a land of opportunities and there cannot be a better time to be born here. The graduating batches should look forward to unprecedented growth in career space.
This year, the Chief Guest of the event was Dr. Nirmalya Kumar, Member, Group Executive Council, Tata Sons Limited. While introducing the Chief Guest, Shri Kamath expressed his sincere gratitude to him for having agreed to deliver the IIM Indore’s 16th Annual Convocation address. While concluding his address, Shri Kamath congratulated all the graduating students.

The grand event was witnessed by proud family members, relatives and friends of the participants as well as by the distinguished guests in the audience.
In his convocation address, Dr. Nirmalya Kumar Mr. appreciated the efforts made by the graduating batches to enter and successfully complete the programmes. He also advised the students to celebrate their graduation day but get ready for the competitive race from tomorrow. He noted that every person is judged on the basis of his performance in the next race as past achievements soon become their accepted qualities. He underlined humility, curiosity and commitment to excellence as the qualities of a successful person. He observed that India is too internally focused and Indians must be thoroughly aware of what’s happening around the world. He also advised the students to contribute their bit in making India global.
Professor Rishikesha T. Krishnan, Director, IIM Indore, in his convocation address, Professor Krishnan highlighted the major achievements of the Institute in the academic year 2014-15. He advised the students to excel in whatever field they commit themselves to and stay devoted to it. He also encouraged the students to be honest and maintain their dignity throughout their life. He then advised the students to treat everybody with same dignity and respect, irrespective of any discrepancies.
About Dr. Nirmalya Kumar
Dr. Nirmalya Kumar is a member of the Group Executive Council of Tata Sons and is responsible for strategy at the group level. He is a Director on the Boards of several Tata Companies including Tata Industries Ltd. He was professor of marketing and director of Aditya Birla India Centre at the London Business School and has previously taught at Harvard Business School, IMD (Switzerland) and Northwestern University (Kellogg School of Management). Dr. Kumar has worked with more than 50 Fortune 500 companies in 60 different countries. He has served on several boards of directors, including ACC, Bata India and UltraTech Cement.
As an author, Dr Kumar has written six books, the latest being ‘Brand Breakout: How Emerging Market Brands Will Go Global’. He has published several articles in Harvard Business Review and other leading academic journals. Dr. Kumar is one of the world’s leading thinkers on strategy and marketing and was included in Thinkers50 (the biannual listing of the top 50 management thinkers in the world) and received “Global Village Award” for the person who contributed the most to the business community’s understanding of globalisation and the new frontiers established by emerging markets. He is also included in 50 Best B-school Professors (Poets&Quants) and 50 Most Influential Business School Professors (mbarankings.com).
Dr. Kumar received his bachelor in commerce degree from Calcutta University, his master in business administration degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and his doctoral degree in marketing from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.
