Mr. Rajesh Agrawal, Deputy Mayor of London addressed the students at IIM Indore on November 6, 2016. Professor Kamal K. Jain, Dean (Academic) welcomed the guest.
Mr. Rajesh Agrawal’s talk revolved around education system, entrepreneurship and success tips. He began his talk by emphasising on the need for developing an entrepreneurial mind set. ‘Nothing can be more gratifying than seeing your venture grow and your capability to serve some important need of the society’, he said. He mentioned that it gives a huge sense of satisfaction when two companies that he set up viz RationalFX in 2005, and Xendpay in 2014, have become a force to reckon with in reducing the cost of international money transfer for businesses and individuals.
Discussing about the education system and IIMs; Mr. Agrawal urged the students that if they wanted to have suggestions, feedback on their start up ideas, IIMs with their diversity, are the best source to do so. They should make the best possible use of this opportunity. He suggested that institutes should develop a network with venture capitalists and shall be able to connect their students with them. A space can be provided to budding entrepreneurs to develop prototypes etc.
There has to be greater acceptance to failures if we really want people to take up entrepreneurship, Mr. Agrawal said. ‘Today in India, the level of tolerance for failure is very low compared to many European countries’, he said.
The talk was followed by a Q&A session wherein Mr. Agrawal answered several queries of students. Event concluded with a vote of thanks by Professor D.L. Sunder, Faculty, IIM Indore.
