On March 10, 2023, the Certificate Course in Business Management for Defence Officers, CCBMDO Batch 19, culminated with a valediction ceremony held at IIM Indore. This momentous occasion saw 58 distinguished defence officers receive their well-earned certificates of completion.
The event was graced by the esteemed Chief Guest, Major General R Puri, AVSM, VSM, Commander – Higher Command Wing, Army War College, Mhow, along with the eminent presence of Prof. Saumya Ranjan Dash, Dean – Programmes, Col. Gururaj Gopinath Pamidi (Veteran), CAO, IIM Indore, and Prof. Kousik Guhathakurta, Programme Coordinator.
Major General Puri, during his address, elaborated on the countless opportunities available in the corporate world for defence officers. He urged the officers to use the skills they have gained in the programme, along with their profound army background, to emerge as effective corporate leaders. He commended the CCBMDO programme for its adeptness in providing the necessary skills to prepare officers for a seamless transition into the corporate world.
Col. Pamidi encouraged the officers to carry forth the legacy of the Indian army and utilize the skills they acquired during their service while undertaking senior leadership roles in the corporate world. He emphasized the significance of upholding honesty, integrity, punctuality, and discipline, virtues that are inherent in servicemen.
Prof. Dash felicitated the participants on their graduation and expressed his confidence that their academic learning at IIM Indore will undoubtedly contribute to their career growth. He highlighted the increasing demand for defence personnel in the corporate world, emphasizing the need for an astute mindset and a positive approach to problem-solving.
Prof. Guhathakurta also extended his congratulations to the batch and underscored the programme’s value in giving back to selfless army officers as yet another IIM Indore initiative in nation-building. He emphasized the need to equip officers with the necessary tools and skills related to significant management fields by familiarizing them with the new framework and orienting them towards management education and training.
The participants also shared their experiences with IIM Indore, elaborating on how the programme familiarized them with the business environment, orientated them towards management education and training, furnished them with conceptual and analytical tools, equipped them with skills related to all significant management fields, including technical and behavioral techniques, and exposed them to various management areas crucial while selecting a second career.
They expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Prof Himanshu Rai, Director of IIM Indore, for his remarkable one-day session on Strategic Negotiation. They extolled his charismatic leadership skills and vast knowledge in the field, which proved to be immensely beneficial and will undoubtedly aid them in their corporate pursuits.
The valedictory function of CCBMDO Batch 2023 concluded, celebrating the achievements of these exceptional defense officers and their transition into the corporate world, aided by IIM Indore’s illustrious management education.
