- Finance & Accounting
Finance and Accounting (F&A) Area has experienced and young faculty in all functional areas of Finance and Accounting. Area faculty has teaching, research and consulting expertise in financial accounting, managerial accounting, corporate finance, corporate governance, financial markets and institutions (including banking and insurance) and issues related to behavioral finance.
The area faculty offers a large number of electives, across post graduate and doctoral level programs, which interlink different facets of finance and accounting with various case studies and simulations involving real-time financial data. The area faculty maintains a high-end financial trading lab through which participants learning is enriched with real-time examples. Besides offerings in the long-duration programs, area faculty also offer customized executive education programs targeted at finance professionals through on-campus; on-site and broadband-based programs.
F&A Faculty members’ research explores both firm-level and economy-level financial decisions and as well examine the impact of several regulatory changes of Indian corporate sector.
- Information Systems
Information Systems (IS) area is having members from multiple disciplines adding to the diversity of the group. In the era of technology disruption and data driven businesses, IS area is intensively involved in teaching and research activities in the domain of Technology Management, Analytics and Information Technology at undergraduate, post graduate, doctoral and executive education level. A range of core and elective courses are being offered by area in the domain of modern technology management and analytics. Specifically, teaching activity includes various themes like technology management, Business Intelligence, data mining, e-Commerce, Business Value of Information Systems, e-Government, Computing for Managers and Data Analytics.
IS area is involved in contemporary and contextual research themes which includes Information Systems Management, e-Government, Data Mining, Enterprise Systems, and Analytics. Faculty members have published their work in high quality journals and conferences in the mentioned themes.

The Operations Management and Quantitative Techniques area of the Indian Institute of Management Indore consists of faculty members with diverse academic backgrounds and interests, including Operations Research (OR), Decision Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Probability and Stochastic process, Data Science and Operations Management (OM). Faculty members of the area are involved with teaching and research on theory, algorithms and applications on topics including, but not limited to, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Inventory Theory, Production Systems, Queuing Theory, Hospital Management, Healthcare Delivery, Mathematical Programming, Optimization, Theory of Constraints, Game Theory, Network Design and Analysis, Data Science, Mathematical Modelling, Simulation, Statistical Modelling, Design and Analysis of Experiments, Bayesian Inference, Partial Differential Equations, Stochastic Processes, Stochastic Volatility Models, Revenue Management, Mathematical and Statistical Finance. The area members teach core and elective courses across the entire breadth of academic programmes offered by the Institute. The faculty members are also guiding multiple student industry projects and doctoral dissertations. Currently, the area is mentoring thirteen doctoral students (9 FPM and 4 FPM-Industry). Faculty members are also involved in developing managerial cases from primary as well as secondary material. These cases are actively utilized as teaching aids in the postgraduate and management development programmes.
Special initiative by the area
The OM & QT area has initiated a Data Analytics teaching and research module at IIM Indore. An industry expert panel discussion was conducted to understand the market demand and courses required. Another initiative involves starting a research group on Maritime Logistics with some industry members. The aim is to develop a knowledge and research community for the logistics sector in India.
- Organizational Behaviour & HRM

The Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management area of Indian Institute of Management Indore is composed of faculty members of diverse backgrounds. The faculty members have academic and research interests ranging from understanding individual and group behaviour, human resource practices in transnational organizations, contemporary views on labour and industrial relations, etc. The area members teach core and elective courses across the entire breadth of academic programmes offered by the Institute. The OB&HRM area of Indian Institute of Management Indore supports a niche two-year post-graduate program titled PGP-HRM. The program is rooted in business rationalities and aims to hone the skills of participants in various functions of human resource management. - Strategic Management
There are nine faculty members in the Strategic Management Area. Diversity is central to the area, and its key strength. Faculty members bring in extensive industry experience in operations, regulation, manufacturing, and consultancy from prior roles in the government and private sectors.
The Strategic Management area faculty have research interests in business ethics, business history, business models, complexity theory, entrepreneurship, globalization and its effects, innovation, international management, mergers and acquisitions, public sector management, strategic decision making, top management teams, etc., in a very diverse set of industries that includes FMCG, manufacturing, media, telecom and transportation. Area members have published in leading journals like Asia Pacific Journal of Management, Computational and Mathematical Organization theory, Decision, Global Strategy Journal, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Research, Journal of World Business, MIT Sloan Management Review, Thunderbird International Business Review among others.
Faculty members of the Strategic Management area have extended consulting services to international agencies like World Bank and UNDP, central and state government ministries, public sector organizations, and the private sector. Faculty members have authored books and book chapters on Strategic Management, International Business and Best Business Practices.
The area offers two doctoral programs, one full-time, residential program and one part-time non-residential doctoral program for participants working in the industry. Our doctoral fellows have been placed at some of the leading management institutes in the country including IIMs Lucknow, Amritsar and Sirmaur and Thapar University. Some others have returned to their parent organizations in the government—for example, Income Tax and BSNL—to positions of enhanced responsibilities. As of 2018, the area has an enrolment of nine doctoral students in the full-time residential program, and ten candidates in the industry doctoral program.
The area offers compulsory courses in Strategic Management covering business strategy in Term II and corporate strategy in Term III for the flagship MBA program. Besides this, the area also offers over twenty electives courses for second year MBA students, covering International Management, Mergers and Acquisitions, Business Models, Strategy Consulting, Entrepreneurship, Competing with Capabilities, E-Business Strategy, etc. Most recently, the area has been offering Strategy Simulation as an elective to expose students to the integrative way in which businesses work and function.
